This week Ed from Fusion visited a rather special client who specialise in TVR and Jaguar vehicles. The purpose for Eds visit was to cure running issues on a EFI conversion to a 1975 E-Type V12 Jaguar running on an Omex 710 engine management system.
After a morning of thoroughly going over and familiarising himself with the setup, several key issues were identified and corrected. Immediately this had a massive impact on the vehicle and road testing could then begin. Further changes were made to the software programming on the ECU and the car began to gain manners which would defy anyone used to the normal Zenith-Stromberg side draft carburettor setup. The end result was a car that was thoroughly pleasant to drive in busy streets as it was on the county roads. An absolutely fantastic motor indeed. Hopefully it may find its way to the dyno where further fine tuning and refinements can then be made.
It probably serves as a good point to remind our customers new, potential and current that Fusion is just as happy working with clients both commercial and individual alike. Our skill-set is absolutely second to none and with our electronics and mechanical background we feel quite simply that what we offer you when it comes to engine management is absolutely unique in the industry.
We have a second hand 3076 turbo in a pulsar GTIR frame fitment internally waste gated (T2 flange) for sale, Came from a perfectly running GTiR that was being broken for parts. Asking price is £600 but open to offers! Contact us for more information.
Just a note to say were exceptionally busy in the workshop at the moment. There may be a delay in responding to emails sent via the site. Its recommended that you call us rather than email us with enquiries as its often much quicker for us to help you that way!
So a busy week as far as new developments go. This week we trialled another first. We had a GTi-R come in with all the right parts to make some good power, and it did. 399bhp on the dyno to be exact. The only reason it didn't do any more was due to the wastegate opening at 1.4 bar boost. However after we mapped this we then trialled our Launch control system which we program onto the stock ECU. Initial results seemed very impressive and it really really did shift of the line quite like nothing else we had experienced for a while. A video will be uploaded shortly.
Another interesting development was with the GA16DE engine. The UK Almeras with the GA16DE engines come fitted with a very very similar system to the Nissan Micra 1.3/1.0 as far as ECU goes. Now these ECUs pose some irritating limitations when it comes to re-mapping them for turbo applications. However they run a different crank angle sensor system compared to the normal 4cyl Nissan engines so its not possible directly to change the ecu for something better. However we discovered that other parts of the world had the more traditional crank angle setup on their GA16DE engines which then made us think.. Hmm lets give this a go and convert the European GA16 to run on a RNN14 SR20DET ecu. And today that's exactly what we did. This enabled us to map the car to precisely the engines needs and removed all of the problems we had before. The only thing is that we do not know exactly what the gains will be since it was road mapped today. Hopefully it will be back in the not to distant future for a power run. But nevertheless it was a massive improvement to the way the car drove and responded.
The car in which Fusion supported towards the end of the 2009 race calender, raced by its owner Yaser returned to the workshop this week for further tweaks to help with its competitiveness for the 2010 race season.
Last time we had it in the workshop it made 192.6bhp. Pretty impressive results from a 998cc 12 valve 3 cyl engine. However this time we absolutely blew away the previous result and it now stands at a staggering 228.8bhp.
Could this be a record for a CB70/80 engine in the UK? We don't know for sure but its go to be pretty close.

Finished tuning a Honda DC5 today. This will be part of a video feature soon to follow. It was a 4 stage process using different mods which included exhausts and intake manifold swaps followed by a final full map which released a nice increase in power. Video will be posted as soon as its completed.
Also we have several more customer cars to add soon as there is a free moment! Keep watching this space!
It was about this time 6 years ago we were working on our Pulsar GTiR for the summer TOTB event, that means that we have been in this game of mapping and playing with Nissan ECU's and Piggyback systems for quite some time!
Which leads quite nicely onto another little 'plug'. If you have a performance (doesn't have to be Japanese) car and are looking to have its ecu remapped get in touch and see what we can do for you.
Finally just to say were also looking acquiring OBDII mapping tools. This will of course enable us to tune your family run about (!) as well as your turbo charged fire eating weekender!
